George Lee wins the MediaCorp Radio Subaru Impreza Challenge 2008!
We now have a new record for the Subaru Impreza Challenge, 82 hours, 18 minutes and 38 seconds set by George Lee, the winner of this year’s challenge who gets to take him a brand new Subaru Impreza WRX 2.5L worth $80,000!
It was a close call – as of Tuesday afternoon there were only 7 contestants left in the game and only one was a regional participant, a 32 year old man from Thailand who called it quits at 72 hours and 50 minutes. They dropped out one by one and by nighttime, only 35 year old mother Mary Tan and 29 year old civil servant George Lee remained.
The following is the specifications of the car that Lee gets to take home: although the WRX is available in Singapore in both 4-door sedan and 5-door hatch form, the grand prize is the hatchback body variant. Under the hood is a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder boxer engine turbocharged to produce 230 PS at 5,200rpm and 320Nm of torque at 2,800rpm, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox and Subaru’s famous symmetrical all-wheel drive.
Subaru, Brembo and Prodrive brakes upgrades from Motor Image Singapore

Motor Image is currently offering brake upgrade kits for Subaru owners in Singapore. You can choose from a range of Brembo and Prodrive performance brakes, and for those who have more sedate Subarus, you can upgrade your brakes to the very same ones used on the standard Subaru Impreza WRX, which probably outperform your Impreza 1.6i’s brakes anytime.
The following are the kits available:
Brembo Gran Turismo for Subaru Impreza WRX $7,550
This kit includes 4 cross-drilled discs with 4-pot black calipers for the front and 2-pot black calipers at the rear. The front discs have a 2-piece construction and the discs have a PCD of 100, and a minimum offset of 43mm. This kit costs SG$7,550 inclusive of installation labour. Also included is a steel-braided brake hose kit.
Brembo Gran Turismo for Subaru Impreza WRX STi $6,750
This Gran Turismo kit for the he STi version of the WRX only includes front brake upgrades as it seems the STi already has decent sufficient brakes at the rear. Included are two single piece cross-drilled brake discs for the front complete with gold-coloured calipers and a steel braided brake hose kit. PCD is 100 and minimum offset is 43mm. This kit costs SG$6,750 inclusive of installation.

This kit for the Subaru Impreza WRX replaces your front discs with 330mm ventilated discs with 4-pot calipers. It also includes brake pads and has a minimum PCD of 100 and a minimum offset of 43mm. The cost? SG$4,055 inclusive of installation.
Subaru brake upgrade for Forester and Legacy $3,300

The baby Impreza 1.6i can now enjoy the Subaru Impreza WRX’s stopping power with this SG$4,100 kit (inclusive of installation) that features all-round discs with 4-pot calipers at the front and 2-pot calipers at the rear. PCD is 100 while the minium offset is 53mm.
MediaCorp Radio Subaru Impreza Challenge 2008: ONLY TWO PEOPLE LEFT!
After over 3 days of having their palms firmly pressed on the new Subaru Impreza WRX 2.5L manual worth $80,000, there are only two participants left from the original 400 contestants (including 40 foreign participants) who began the competition on the 8th of November in front of the Ngee Ann City plaza on Orchard Road.
The contest is now down to Mary Tan and George Lee. That’s one male participant and one female participant each, and it looks like they’re well on their way of beating the record holder and 2007 winner Sandra Yeow’s 77 hours and 13 minutes.
Who will emerge as the champion and take home the Impreza WRX? The competition is still on-going and to avoid disputes, video cameras have been mounted near both Mary and George, pointed at their hands to ensure they remain firmly on their respective palm decals!
Can you imagine, you’ve already come this far… and it’s either you or the other person. One will drive home a really fast car, the other has to head onto the Orchard MRT. As the ABBA song goes, the winner takes it all!
MediaCorp Radio Subaru Impreza Challenge 2008: end of Day 3 update
Today is the fourth day of the MediaCorp Radio Subaru Impreza Challenge 2008 organised by Motor Image and MediaCorp Radio. Yesterday saw only 5 of the regional team (3 Filipino and 2 Thai, the Malaysians have all dropped out) remaining while the more hardy 32 Singaporeans (on their “home turf”) were steadfast in enduring continuous standing and being pelted by rain. 12 of these are female contestants.
How many will be left when Motor Image updates us with the latest standings later today? Stay tuned to find out tonight!

Male contestants vying for the WRX – will this year’s challenge breach 80 hours?
The MediaCorp Radio Subaru Impreza Challenge kicked off yesterday at the Ngee Ann City plaza. Those who paid a visit to Orchard road last night would have seen the large crowd gathered in front of Ngee Ann City, watching the eager contestants battle it out in a test of endurance and will power to win the brand new turbocharged Subaru Impreza WRX 2.5L with a manual transmission. This baby is worth $80,000.
The challenge is regional this time, with 360 Singaporean participants competing with 40 other contestants from nearby regions as well – Malaysia, Thailand, Hongkong and the Philippines.

The ladies want their own Subaru too!
This challenge has been a yearly event for the past 5 years. The longest time ever spent waiting to be the only one with their hands on the Subaru was last year’s female challenge, Sandra Yeow who spent 77 hours and 13 minutes with the car. Sandra Yeow’s husband is taking part this year, his fourth time competing in the challenge.
The shortest time was back in 2005 where Koh Meng Khoon and Lung Wen Jie spent 64 hours and 31 minutes with the car.
Limited Edition MINI Monte Carlo

Trans Eurokars is selling a limited edition version of the MINI Cooper called the MINI Monte Carlo.
The limited edition features livery inspired by the old school Mini piloted by Paddy Hopkick that won the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally.
The MINI Monte Carlo is based on the MINI Cooper, so you won’t be winning many traffic light sprints with this one. Under its hood is the normally aspirated version of the BMW Prince Valvetronic engine, producing an output of 120 horsepower and 160Nm of torque.
Two colours are available, Chili Red and Mellow Yellow and these come with matching interior trim colours. The price tag? $104,800 inclusive of COE.
