Nissan compact car set for Geneva reveal, teaser video released

Nissan has confirmed that it will unveil a new compact car at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. This car is basically the replacement to the Nissan March/Micra. The company has also released a teaser video of the new vehicle and instead of a short clip, its slightly over 4 minutes long and contains some juicy information.
The compact will feature a 1.2 liter 3-cylinder engine. Nissan selected this 3-cylinder over a 4-pot because it delivers the best balance of performance, cost effectiveness and environmental friendliness.
The engine will be paired with a continuously variable transmission and the vehicle will sit on a new platform called the V-platform. Nissan confirmed that the compact will go into production in Thailand in March and that sales in Europe are expected to begin in autumn. Read the rest of this entry.
Nissan reveals Juke crossover ahead of Geneva debut

This is the NIssan Juke crossover. It looks familiar because it is based on the Nissan Qazana concept that was showcased at last year’s Geneva Motor Show. The Juke which is based on the Renault Nissan Alliance B-Platform measures 4 meters long, 1.765 meters wide and 1.57 meters high while its wheelbase is figured at 2.5 meters.
The rather odd-looking crossover is able to seat five and is available with a number of engine options. These include a 117hp 1.6 liter petrol, a 190hp turbocharged version that also outputs 240Nm of torque while the final spot is taken up by a 110hp 1.5 liter dCi diesel that also makes 240Nm of torque.

The Juke is offered with two transmission options including a 5-speed manual and a continuously variable transmission. It comes standard with a front wheel drive configuration but potential buyers can also go home with an ALL-MODE 4×4-i system.
The Nissan Juke which will make its official debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show will be sold in Europe, Japan as well as in the US. Continue reading to view more images of the crossover. Read the rest of this entry.
Tommy Kaira tunes the Nissan GT-R

Japanese tuner Tommy Kaira is one busy company. Not too long ago we saw them modify a Toyota Prius, and now they’ve come up with a Nissan GT-R based project called the Silver Wolf. Honestly, it was only a matter of time before they laid their hands on the reigning king of Japanese performance cars. It’s almost like a rite of passage for any self respecting tuning house!
But unlike their German counterparts, Tommy Kaira doesn’t attempt to pile on more horsepower. Instead, the Kyoto based tuner focussed on upgrading the GT-R’s brakes, suspension and exhaust system. On the styling front, there’s a wide body kit moulded from carbon fibre. Inside, red joins the standard black to make for a more visually entertaining cabin.

Fully kitted out Nissan GT-R to make debut at 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon

The tuners are not about to leave the Nissan GT-R R35 alone just yet. What you see above is a sketch of an upcoming final product that will be shown at the 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon happening next month. Japan-based Original Runduce is behind the mod and it is made up by an aggressively-styled body kit as well as new alloy wheels.
The tuner also revealed that the GT-R that looks as though it came out of a shoot location for the Dark Night’s sequel will feature a higher horsepower figure, over 600hp it said. It looks sinister!
Nissan Qashqai gets mid-life facelift

Nissan’s Qashqai mid-sized crossover, which is positioned in Europe as an alternative to traditional VW Golf class hatchbacks, has been given a mid-life facelift. The Qashqai broke new ground when it was launched back in March 2007, but by exceeding sales expectations (the 500,000th customer delivery will take place before the end of 2009), it’s proof that Nissan did its market research homework. Last year saw the range grow with the introduction of the Qashqai+2, a seven-seat long wheelbase version of the original.
For this update, a more dynamic outlook is brought by a new bonnet, front bumper, wings, grille and headlamps. Behind, the redesigned lights clusters retain the same shape but are tweaked to reduce drag, while the tail lights are now of the LED variety. Two new five-spoke rim designs are available as well. Coefficient of drag (cd) has dropped from 0.34 to 0.33.
The cabin features a new dial design that’s clearer while the trip computer has been redesigned with a white backlit display. Further improvements include low-level lighting around the front footwells. New cubbys have been added too. Nissan claims improved isolation against noise, vibration and harshness, achieved by adding multi-layer insulation material around the front bulkhead, plus the fitment of an ‘acoustic’ windscreen. Wind noise around the A-pillars has also been lowered and the suspension has been tuned to improve ride comfort.
Two petrol (1.6 and 2.0) and two diesel engines (1.5 and 2.0) are available; they will be joined by a new variant. Called Pure Drive, the 1.5 dCi varinat produces only 129g/km of CO2. Contributing to this is weight reduction, aerodynamic wheel covers, blanking of the fog lamp sockets, low rolling resistance tyres and lengthening of the final drive ratio.
