European pricing for McLaren MP4-12C revealed

McLaren has officially announced the European pricing for its MP4-12C sports car. You would be able to walk away with this 600hp monster for £168,500 including 20% VAT. This price is slightly cheaper compared to the price of the Ferrari 458 Italia in the UK, by approximately £1000.

In Germany it would cost €200,000 while France/Monaco, Italy and Belgium will sell it for €201,000, €201,680 and €203,360 respectively. The MP4-12C will go on sale sometime next year. For wealthy Singaporeans who plan to drive this home, don’t worry as there will be an official McLaren dealership in the country by 2011.

As mentioned previously, the new McLaren is powered by a 600hp twin-turbo 3.8 liter V8 which is also capable of cranking out 599Nm of torque. The powerplant is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and 0-100km/h takes slightly less than 3.8 seconds while top speed is figured at over 300km/h.

McLaren Automotive reveal dealership locations: Singapore is in the list!

McLaren Automotive has released a statement indicating the locations of the company’s first global retailers. The company confirmed that there will be a total of 35 retailers in 19 countries by 2011 and said that more will come beyond 2012. The sports car maker said that up to 500 potential dealers have applied for setting up McLaren outlets.

In Europe cities including Birmingham, London, Manchester, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, Brussels, Monaco, Paris, Milan, Barcelona or Madrid and Zurich will house McLaren dealerships while Manama, Doha, Jeddah, Riyadh, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Johannesburg make up the list for the Middle Eastern and South African regions.

The North American market will get McLaren dealerships in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Orange County, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Tampa and Toronto. Six cities have been named for the Asia Pacific region including Hong Kong, Sydney, Tokyo and Singapore. These outlets will carry the MP4-12C and McLaren also added that it already has up to 2,500 potential customers.

However the company did not reveal its dealer-partners for the above cities but said that it will announce 23 of them at the Goodwood Festival of Speed which will also host the world debut of the MP4-12C before it goes on sale in spring 2011.

Ron Dennis: No plans to race the McLaren MP4-12C

There won’t be a factory team to race the new MP4-12C supercar, according to McLaren boss Ron Dennis, but privateers seeking to campaign Woking’s latest could be supported by the company in the future.

“We don’t have plans to race it, but we do recognise that some of our customers will want to race this car,” Dennis said. “At the appropriate time we will form a department to service that – but thoughts on a factory team entering any series are premature,” he told Autosport.

Since there won’t be a chance for us to watch McLaren’s finest take on the likes of Maserati’s MC12 and the Ford GT in the FIA GT1 championship, or see it competing in Le Mans again (the McLaren F1 GTR won the famous 24-hour race in 1995), we’ll have to settle for these fantastic renderings from Jon Sibal. The skilled digital artist has come up with a “GTR version” of the MP4-12C in liveries that pay homage to the original F1 GTR.

Jenson and Lewis give seal of approval to McLaren MP4-12C

This comes as no surprise. What’s the point of having two F1 champs in your payroll without milking them for the publicity their names generate? Better still if there are some believable products to endorse! Here we have McLaren letting Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton have a go at the MP4-12C prototypes. The MP4-12C road car has a mid-mounted 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 mated to a 7-speed twin-clutch system. With 600 bhp and 587Nm of torque (80% of which is available from 2,000 rpm), it’s capable of 0-100 km/h in under 3.5 seconds.

The two Brits sampled the 12C at Goodwood Motor Circuit earlier this month. Although testing road cars isn’t part of their official job scope, they were keen to get behind the wheel, being self confessed ‘petrolheads’ and having seen the 12C at the McLaren Technology Centre. The champs gave feedback on the 12C’s launch control, Brake-Steer application and threshold levels of the electronic stability control programmes, as well as driver comfort at speed, McLaren said.

Although the good comments are expected, there’s no reason not to believe that the MP4-12C is a cracking car to drive and will rival the best from Italy. See what Jenson and Lewis have to say after the jump. Full details, a huge gallery and videos are available here.

McLaren MP4-12C US debut pushed to 2010

According to a report by Insideline, Woking-based McLaren has pushed the US debut of the 600hp MP4-12C to the mid of next year. The company originally planned to launch the new super car in the US at the Los Angeles Auto Show happening in December 2009. Apparently the company is finding it difficult to set up a dealer network in the country since not many are willing to part with millions of dollars just to sell one sports car.
