Paris 2010 – Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale

As promised, Maserati has unveiled the GranTurismo MC Stradale at the Paris Motor Show. The MC Stradale is regarded as the trident’s fastest, lightest and most powerful vehicle in it’s current range. The coupe which is inspired by the Trofeo GranTurismo MC and the GT4 race models is powered by a 450 PS 4. 7 liter V8 which also makes 510Nm of torque. This marks a 10 PS along with a 20Nm bump over the GranTurismo S model.

The MC Stradale is also lighter compared to the S, by 110 kilograms. This means that it weighs 1,770 kilograms. Part of the reason is because the MC Stradale has no rear seats while the front seats are made out of carbon fiber. This means that it is strictly a two seater.

Engineers have also reduced the gear shift time of it’s MC Race Shift electro-actuated transaxle gearbox to about 60 milliseconds. This is done by using advanced electronics. With that, naught to 100km/h performance is set at 4.6 seconds.

Other goodies include new Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, custom-developed Pirelli tyres, a unique suspension layout as well as a 48 : 52 weight distribution, that ensures balanced handling and even tire wear. The MC Stradale goes on sale in February next year. More images can be seen after the jump.

Limited-edition Maserati GranTurismo S MC Sport Line for the Middle East

You see the Middle East is truly a special place when it comes to cars. You can find unique cars like a ‘gold’ plated Veyron, a Nissan GT-R police car and the list goes on and on. Continuing that tradition, Maserati has announced the limited-edition Maserati GranTurismo S MC Sport Line with Matt White “ICE” finishing for the Middle East. When we say limited-edition we mean 12 units only.

Why 12? Well thats because the MC12 has won the FIA GT International Championship 12 times since 2005 and because Maserati is currently present in 12 Middle Eastern cities. There are two things to look for in this model: The above mentioned Matt White “ICE” paint job as well as a plaque with the name of the city to which it is committed. Maserati also announced the GranTurismo S MC Sport Line treated to a “Matt Bianco Fuji” finish that is based on a limited run of 11 units only.

The MC designation brings along a lower ride height (by 10mm), stiffer dampers and larger-diameter anti-roll bars which minimise lateral load shifts (roll angle is reduced by 20%). All in all, the car’s rigidity is increased by 16% at the front and 32% at the rear.

The MC Sport Line options are also available to Maserati clients worldwide and is made up by an aerodynamic package with double front winglets, rear lip spoiler, door sill inserts, black window surrounds, black exhaust pipes and body coloured door handles. There are also carbon fibre door mirrors and carbon finish door handles. These modifications help increase the vertical load. There is also an aesthetic package that includes gloss black alloy wheels, interior carbon finishing and MC design aluminium racing pedals.

MC Sport Line suspension package adds on drilled, slotted front and rear disc brakes. The Maserati Stability Programme (MSP) has also been re-calibrated for the MC suspension, giving the driver more room to play with. Look for an image gallery after the jump.

Frankfurt 2009: Maserati goes top-less with the GranCabrio

Italian-based auto maker Maserati has officially revealed the GranCabrio at the motor show in Frankfurt. It is the company’s first ever 4-seat convertible, and it has a 4.7-liter V8 under hood that is capable of cranking out 433HP. The GranCabrio comes fitted with a 6-speed automatic transmission. To help shave weight, the bonnet and cross beams are made from aluminium, while the boot is made from SMC (Sheet Molding Compound).

Maserati has also managed to maintain the aerodynamic efficiency of the GranCabrio, meaning it has the same 0.35 Cx figure as the coupe model. On the inside, it has features like automatic dual-zone climate control as well as a BOSE audio system, apart from a luxurious treatment. The canvas roof can be retracted within 28 seconds, and can be done at speeds of up to 30 km/h.

The Maserati GranCabrio is treated to a Skyhook suspension as standard, while stopping power is provided Brembo. The sports car maker has yet to release pricing details, but has announced that potential customers can expect deliveries starting from next spring. Meanwhile, continue reading to view a high-red image gallery.

Maserati’s topless GranCabrio to premier in Frankfurt

Italian-based Maserati will not miss out on the action at next month’s motor show in Frankfurt and will arrive with the Maserati GranCabrio, which is the auto maker’s first 4-seater convertible. The topless GranCabrio is motivated by Maserati’s 4.7 liter V8 that can crank out 440HP, which is carried over from the Maserati GranTurismo S. The engine should be mated to a 6 speed ZF automatic transmission. There is a chance that a smaller 405HP 4.2 liter V8 will make its way into the engine bay in the future. Maserati launches the GranTurismo S Automatic for the Singaporean market: With Video!

Italian-based sports car maker Maserati, has added another variant to the GranTurismo line up here in Singapore. Called the GranTurismo S Automatic, this gorgeous coupe with the ‘Trident’ insignia allows it’s owners to enjoy all 440HP in a smoother fashion thanks to a 6 speed ZF automatic transmission, instead of making do with a slightly aggressive Ferrari-sourced semi automatic tranny, called the MC-Shift.

With the ZF transmission, gear changes are of course slightly slower, but much smoother, allowing the driver and passengers to enjoy a smoother ride during upshift and downshifts, and lets face it, there are a large number of owners out there who would find the aggressiveness of the semi-automatic rather unnecessary, hence the standard automatic is introduced.

The Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic shares the same powerplant found in the GranTurismo S, which is a 4.7 liter V8 (4691 cc V90° engine) that is capable of 440HP at 7,000 revs and 490Nm of torque at 4,750 revs. With the auto tranny, the coupe is able to hit 295 km/h in terms of top speed, and can accelerate to 100 km/h in a respectable 5.0 seconds flat.

With the automatic tranny, gear changes can be made at up 7,200 revs. It also comes with four function modes, including Auto Normal for comfortable cruising, Auto Sport for those who would like a sportier ride, Auto ICE for low grip conditions and then there is also a Manual mode. In manual, it is the driver who chooses when to change gear via the steering wheel paddles.

The GranTurismo S with the semi-automatic tranny delivers the same top speed, but with a 0-100 km/h sprint of 4.9 seconds, just 0.1 seconds quicker. According to the auto maker, the S Automatic returns 100 kilometers of driving range with 15.23 liters of fuel, based an combined cycle. On Urban cycle consumption, it does the same with 25.8 liters of fuel (ouch!), but who cares? With a car like that, I am sure you wouldn’t mind if it consumes 30 liters!

With a weight distribution of 49:51, the GranTurismo S Automatic comes with the Skyhook suspension system as standard. This technology uses shock absorbers with an aluminium body to continually adjust the damping. Skyhook automatically selects the optimal level of damping and integrates with the MSP safety system and the calibration of the car’s automatic gearbox. The result is that the car is able to adapt to the characteristics of each driver.

So what is the damage? Well it starts from S$ 465,000 with COE, which is both S$ 30,000 cheaper than a GranTurismo S, and more than a standard GranTurismo. Continue reading to view more images of the Maserati GranTurismo S Automatic. There is also a 2 minute 38 second-long promotional video of the 440HP beauty, enjoy!
