US$25,898 “High-tech” Luxgen7 SUV unveiled!

Taiwanese auto maker Luxgen has just released its second model. Called the Luxgen7, it is an SUV that measures 4.8 meters long, 1.93 meters wide and 1.76 meters high. Luxgen boldly regards the 7 as the world’s first high-tech LSUV with the adoption of ‘interesting’ tech goodies. For example the 7 has a Multi-H floor structure that allows it to have a “flat and spacious” interior. There is also something called the HRSS High Rigidity Safety Structure which pretty much gives the SUV better impact absorption.

The press release did not mention what powers the 7 but it is likely to have a 200hp 2.2 liter turbocharged engine with 280Nm of torque. This engine is found in the Luxgen MPV that is based on a Renault Espace platform, which should be the same case for this SUV.

The company did say that it has an intelligent 10-mode 5-speed automatic transmission. I wonder what are those 10 modes for. It also has a 3-mode 4WD system. Luxgen also claims that the 7 is the only vehicle in its segment that is equipped with an intelligent power actuated tailgate as standard. The tailgate can be configured to open partially in order to prevent collision when parked in confined spaces such as an underground parking lot.

The vehicle also has a rather interesting anti-theft system which I am a little impressed about actually. By pressing a specified button for three seconds, the driver’s seat will slide itself forward and lean against the steering wheel, so its makes driving impossible! Simple and effective!

There is also a Think+ onboard computer system which takes care of various functions such as GPS, audio, visual and more. The system is also complemented by four visual assistance systems including Eagle View+ which offers 360 degrees surveillance, Side View+ which is a blind spot monitoring system, a lane departure system called LDWS+ as well as Night Vision+ which is self explanatory.

You might have figured out that the Luxgen7 is a high-end product hence its no surprise when I say that it has things like leather seats with electronic massaging and heating as well as premium Clarion and JBL audio. It also has dual airbags as well as ABS with EBD and BAS (Braking Assistance System). But the thing is, although it is marketed as a high-end vehicle and called “high-tech”, features like ESP and traction control are optional! This is the same case for dual side protection airbags and dual side curtain airbags.

There are five trim levels to choose from and prices range between NTD 838,000 (US$25,898) and NTD 1,148,000 (US$35,478). Continue reading to view high-res versions of the images above.
