BMW 1-Series M to hit Singapore by July 2011!

AsiaOne Motoring has reported that the highly-anticipated BMW 1-Series M will be launched in Singapore by July 2011. Apart from indicating the mid-of-the-year launch, Graeme Grieve, BMW’s vice-president of importer markets revealed to AsiaOne that the pocket rocket will only be available with a manual transmission.

This was also revealed in our previous report where a Maryland-based BMW employee found out some details about the new M car. The employee also said that only 2,700 units are planned and it will be available in three colour options including Alpine White, Jet Black and Valencia Orange Metallic. The BMW 1-Series M Coupe is slated for a reveal in December, ahead of it’s official debut at next year’s Detroit Motor Show.

BMW 120i M Sport launched for the local market

BMW’s local distributor Performance Motors has launched the 120i M Sport for the Singaporean market. Just like other equivalent M Sport models, the sportier 120i is fitted with an M Sports suspension giving it a lower ride height with sports spring and different dampers. It also comes with an M Aerodynamic Package as well as an M Sports bodykit along with unique 17-inch light allow wheels finished in double-spoke 207 design.

Other exterior modifications include chrome exhaust tailpipes, xenon headlights, blacked out taillights as well as the must-have Shadow Line treatment for the window trim. The interior sports an M leather steering wheel, Aluminium Glacier Silver trim, Boston leather sports seats with further adjustability and memory function as well as floor mats with royal blue piping. There are also “BMW Edition” door sill finishers and an anthracite headliner.

Under the hood the 2.0 liter 4-cylinder petrol engine makes 156hp and 200Nm of torque. The BMW 120i M Sport can be yours for S$166,800, including COE.


Peugeot 3008 crossover makes debut in Singapore

The Peugeot 3008 crossover has been launched for the Singaporean market with a base price of S$115,900. The 3008 is available with a Prince 1.6 liter turbocharged engine (co-developed with BMW) with 150hp and 240Nm of torque. Mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission the 3008 is able to hit 100km/h in a decent 9.5 seconds while top speed is figured at 202km/h. The crossover does this while delivering100 kilometers with 7.8 liters of fuel and outputting 176 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometer.

The new Pug is also known as the T84 internally and rides on the 308 platform. Apart from it’s slightly unusual looks the 3008 features a pretty good looking interior, as with most vehicles in Peugeot’s line-up. You will find soft-touch materials at the right places and the cockpit is more sedan-like so you don’t get a high seating position which is usually associated with MPVs and SUVs.

Major features and accessories are made up by a multi-function trip computer, LED taillights, audio unit with CD and MP3 playability, split tailgate which opens to a maximum of 1604 liters of space, rain sensor, engine immobilizer and heads-up display as well as a panoramic roof for the Adventure trim level.

Safety wise there is also ABS with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) and EBA (emergency brake assist) , 6 airbags, two ISOFIX points for the rear seats as well as a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating. More importantly the 3008 comes with an electronic stability program or ESP which should be a must-have these days.

Singapore’s BMW M showroom: Image gallery added!

All-new Kia Sportage lands in Singapore, August launch planned

Cycle & Carriage Kia has announced that the all-new Kia Sportage has arrived in Singapore and is slated for an official launch in late August. The new Sportage which looks so much better than the model it replaces is offered with a single engine option, which is the 2.0 liter Theta II petrol unit.

It’s power is figured at 166 PS while offering 197Nm of torque peaking at 4,600 RPM. Only the 2WD option is available and the sole transmission option is taken up by 6-speed automatic. It comes with two operating modes including fully automatic or Sport, which simply means it allows manual shifting. 0 – 100km/h takes 10.6 seconds while top speed is set at 182km/h. Combined fuel economy on the other hand is figured at 8.7 liters per 100 kilometers.

The new Sportage which grows in size all round (except for height), comes in two trim level configurations. The base EX gives you 17-inch alloys, projector headlights, LED taillights, cruise control, audio with AUX, USB, MP3 and iPod compatibility, ABS and two airbags, just to name a few.

The range-topping SX adds an engine Start/Stop function, LED daytime running lights, dual-zone automatic climate control, panoramic roof, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), power seat for the driver, ECM (Electro-Chronic Mirror) as well as a 6-disc audio. 18-inch wheels replace the 17-inch ones and the interior sports a tan leather, compared to black leather for the EX. World’s first BMW M showroom opens in Singapore

Munich Automobiles has officially unveiled the world’s first dedicated BMW M showroom at the Teban Gardens Crescent in Singapore. The dedicated M showroom, according to Dr Kay Segler who is the president of BMW M GmbH, is the first step in the tuning arm’s commitment to broaden it’s reach to M enthusiasts which simply means that there will be more M showrooms elsewhere, although Segler failed to mention where the next showroom would be.

The showroom in Singapore will allow enthusiasts to get their hands on all the current M models including the M3, M6, X5 M and X6 M. The E60 M5 is not in the list as production has been discontinued, making way for the new F10 M5, coming next year. The upcoming 1-Series M Coupe should be made available at the showroom as well once it is introduced to the market. The 100,00 square feet, S$7 million showroom also houses M accessories and features a service station.

To help intensify the M experience, visitors can also check out an interactive soundwall where they can revel in the seductive purr of the different M engines through headphones. Munich Automobiles claims that the interactive soundwall is Singapore’s first. There is also a heritage wall which showcases a display of BMW M’s history since it was established in 1972.

Also included is a special room where a wall is dedicated to photographs taken by fans of their defining BMW M moments. Munich Automobiles, which is jointly owned by Prestige Cars and Sime Darby, the parent company of Performance Automobiles also plans to put a classic M model on display in the showroom as well.

The showroom will open it’s doors to the public on August 2nd. Opening hours for Monday till Saturday are from 8.00am till 7.00pm. It will also be open on Sundays and during public holidays, between 9.00am and 6.00pm. Continue reading to view an image gallery.

BMW Z4 sDrive35is coming at the end of July

Local distributor of BMW vehicles, Performance Motors is set to welcome a more powerful version of the Z4 sDrive35i. Called the sDrive35is, the revised roadster pumps out 335hp, which is 29hp more than the sDrive35i it is based upon. Torque has also been increased by 50Nm, bringing it up to 450Nm. Not only that, there is also an overboost function that can bring out 50Nm more, which means there will be a total of 500Nm of torque. All that power is channeled to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

This is will allow the sDriven35is to hit the century mark from a standstill in just 4.7 seconds while it’s top speed is electronically governed at 250km/h. This model also gets M Sport upgrades which is made up by an adaptive M Suspension that gives the Z4 a lower ride height (by 10mm) and electronically controlled shock absorbers, an M leather steering with paddle shifters as well as the usual M badging.
