Range Rover Evoque officially revealed in London!

Land Rover has officially unveiled a brand new member of the Range Rover family called the Evoque, along with a single image (pictured above). The Evoque ‘coupe’ as described in the press release, is heavily inspired by the Land Rover LRX concept and it will be made available in both two and four wheel drive configurations. The company also said that the Evoque will be sold in up to 160 countries and each will be manufactured in Halewood, UK.
Phil Popham, managing director of Land Rover said, “The all-new Range Rover Evoque is an important step for the future continued success and growth of the brand. Customers can be confident that the new car will be premium, luxurious and just as special as the other Range Rover models. Its sporting looks and unique qualities will open the brand to a new group of customers who may not have considered a Range Rover product before.”
As speculated, the Evoque is also available in three and five-door body styles and Land Rover said that the two wheel drive option would be able to emit less than 130 grams of emissions per kilometer, which makes it the greenest Range Rover the world has ever seen. It also said that it is the most fuel efficient as well.
Unfortunately the company did not release full specifications such as information about the Evoque’s powertrain. However the motoring fraternity is suggesting that it may be powered by a range of engines including a 2.2 liter turbodiesel and a 3.2 liter petrol. Don’t be surprised if you see a hybrid variant as well featuring a 2.0 liter turbodiesel.
Land Rover confirmed that the Evoque will make it’s European market launch in summer 2011 and the rather good looking SUV will enjoy a world debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in September. During the launch Land Rover’s design chief Gerry McGovern also introduced Victoria Beckham as a new member of the design team but did not specify the fashionista’s role.
Look out in this space for more details and more official images of the Evoque, meanwhile you can continue reading to watch a 15 minute-long launch video. Read the rest of this entry.

2011 Range Rover revealed, with new 4.4 liter V8 diesel

The 2011 Range Rover has been officially unveiled. Before we move into juicy details about the SUV’s new 4.4 liter diesel V8, lets take a look at the changes in terms of design. On the outside, there is a new ‘Jupiter’ grille along with side vents for the diesel model. There is also an optional Exterior Design Pack which comprises of a revised front bumper with fog lamps surrounds, front grille and side vents that are finished in Titan. There are also revised front sills, a different rear bumper and stainless steel exhaust finishers. The pack also offers eight colour options.
Changes inside include optional illuminated treadplates for the front doors and a new transmission control for the diesel model. This control unit is pretty much like the pop-up knob-type featured in the Jaguar XF. Talking about the transmission, the Range Rover features a ZF 8HP70 8-speed transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle-shifters. This gearbox is offered with the above mentioned 4.4 liter diesel V8 and Land Rover says that the transmission suits the diesel power unit well.

It’s torque converter locks up earlier to reduce slip and energy loss. It also has a wider ratio spread and something called Transmission Idle Control that disengages 70% of the drive when the vehicle is stationary and when the engine is idling in drive. Now lets move on to the engines.
The petrol front is made up by the familiar supercharged 5.0 liter LR-V8 that cranks out 510 PS and 625Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a ZF HP28 6-speed automatic transmission. The icing on the cake is the LR-TDV8 4.4 liter diesel engine. This engine with parallel sequential turbocharging goes on to replace the 3.6 liter diesel and it is able to produce 313 PS and a massive 700Nm of torque. Mated with the obove mentioned 8-speed slush box, this powertrain configuration reduces CO2 emissions to 253g/km, an improvement of about 14%. Combined fuel economy is figured at 9.4 liters per 100 kilometers (30.1 MPG).

The new Range Rover also has an improved Terrain Response Enhancements featuring Hill Start Assist and Gradient Acceleration Control. The latter provides safety cover on severe gradients when the driver does not have Hill Descent Control engaged. Along with the reveal Land Rover also announced an Autobiography Black edition of the Range Rover where only 700 units will be produced. Each features a Barolo Black finish along with 20-inch “Diamond Turned” alloy wheels, a Titan grille mesh, a bright chrome grille ‘U’ edge and black grille surround, just to name a few.
