Infiniti shows off the IPL G Cabrio Concept

This is the Infiniti IPL G Cabrio Concept that will make an appearance at the Paris Motor Show. The 4-seater hard top convertible looks more like a near-production concept and it is expected to join the IPL G Coupe soon. Under the hood lies a 338 PS 3.7 liter V6 which also makes 374Nm of torque. This engine has been modified to offer those figures as the engine produces 320 PS in its more conventional state of tune.

The engine is linked to a 7-speed automatic with paddle shifters and the concept’s 0-100km/h sprint figure is set at under 6 seconds while top speed is figured at over 270km/h. It is also treated to a lowered, sports suspension with springs that are stiffer by 10%. The Nissan brand also mentioned that the decision about bringing IPL Infinitis to Europe will be made after considering reaction to the IPL G Cabrio Concept.

High-performance Infiniti IPL G Coupe revealed

This is the Infiniti IPL G Coupe which belongs to the auto brand’s new performance range called the Infiniti Performance Line, hence the IPL designation in the vehicle’s moniker. The Performance Line is pretty much like BMW’s M GmbH but not as hardcore. IPL cars, such as it’s first iteration here are treated to a more aggressive styling and are shod with extra ponies. The IPL G Coupe is based on the rear wheel drive second generation G Coupe and design wise it has different front and rear bumpers, sculpted side sills, rear spoiler and chrome exhaust tips.
The coupe sits on 19-inch IPL 7-spoke wheels fitted with Bridgestone Potenza RE50A performance tires. It is only available in two colour options including Graphite Shadow and Malbec Black. Moving on to the interior, it features red-stitched leather-appointed front sport seats with manual thigh extension and driver’s power torso and thigh support adjustment, red-stitched steering wheel, Silk Obi aluminum trim as well as aluminum pedals and footrest. Available in two colour treatments which are Graphite and Monaco Red, the interior also sports a Bose audio system, Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System, Infiniti Voice Recognition, RearView Monitor and more.

However unlike a dedicated M engine for BMW’s M models, Inifiniti has fitted the same 3.7 liter V6 found in the regular G Coupe. Nevertheless the engine has been retuned to offer more power. It now makes 348hp at 7,400 RPM and 276 lb-ft torque at 5,200 RPM which means it has 18hp and 6 lb-ft more. Modifications performed on the engine include a re-calibrated ECU and a high-flow exhaust system. The engine can be mated to either a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission with a short-throw shifter or a 7-speed automatic transmission with solid magnesium paddle shifters.
Infiniti also worked on the suspension where the front springs rates have been increased by 20% while the rear were increased by 10%. Other upgrades are made up by a sport-tuned steering gear, adjusted shock tuning as well as beefier brakes. Also included is a Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VLSD). Infiniti has yet to release pricing details but confirmed that the IPL G Coupe will hit US dealerships in December. It also revealed that the availability of the coupe in other markets is still under evaluation.
