Coda Automotive announces a new all-electric sedan for 2010

California based electric auto maker, Coda Automotive has announced that it will launch an all-electric sedan by end of 2010. Expected to be called the Coda sedan, it would be a four-door mid-size sedan with a seating capacity of five and it would carry a price tag of US$ 45,000 when it goes on sale, and if you include Federal tax credit and additional state incentives which is valued at US$7,500, the price would drop to the mid US$ 30,000 range.

The auto maker did not reveal performance figures, but mentioned that the 333V lithium-ion battery pack would enable the electric vehicle to offer a real-world range of between 90 to 120 miles depending on individual driving habits. The Coda sedan travels far enough between charges to satisfy 94% of daily driving routines while the onboard charger plugs into any 110 or 220V standard outlet and completes a full charge in less than six hours at a 220V service. Charging the battery for a 40-mile commute can be completed in two hours.

The battery pack will be supplied by Tianjin Lishen Battery Joint-Stock Co. Ltd., a Chinese-based company that is also a key supplier to Apple, Motorola, Samsung, Vodafone and more. Coda also revealed that the electromobile would only averagely cost US$ 3 to run 100 miles, and that it can save you up to US$ 2,000 a year in terms of operation and maintenance.

Apart from other features such as a telematics package, navigation with turn-by-turn directions, a “green screen” that monitors driving efficiency, roadside assistance with an emergency button, a Bluetooth system with an embedded microphone, AM/FM/XM radio with Sirius satellite capability, iPod dock, MP3/USB connectivity, security system, aluminum wheels, and power windows, doors and mirrors as well as ABS with electronic stability control and airbags, the Coda will be offered with a three-year or 36,000 mile warranty.
