Mitsubishi wraps up deal to supply 100,000 i-MiEVs to PSA Peugeot Citroën

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has announced the signing of a “Final Cooperative Agreement” with PSA Peugeot Citroën on the supply of its i-MiEV electric car to the French brands. The deal will see the Japanese company supply 100,000 units of the i-MiEV to PSA, which will rebadge the car and market it as the Citroen C-Zero and Peugeot iOn. Both cars will be launched in Europe, starting in France, by the end of 2010.

The i-MiEV EV, which is based on Mitsubishi’s i city car, is powered by 88 lithium ion cells connected in a series. Its permanent magnet synchronous motor makes 47 kW or 64 PS and 180 Nm of torque from zero to 2000 rpm. Cruising range is 160 km in the Japanese 10-15 mode. A full charge from a 200V outlet will take about seven hours.

This news comes in the wake of failed discussions for capital alliance between both companies in the style of Renault and Nissan. PSA chief Philippe Varin confirmed that at the Geneva show but also said that both parties will continue talking about expanding business ties – and this is one example of a good tie up. PSA also markets the Mitsubishi Outlander SUV under Peugeot and Citroen brands.


2010 Geneva: Citroen SURVOLT Concept revealed with provocative video

This is the Citroen SURVOLT Concept that was showcased at the Geneva motor event. It is a 2-seater concept featuring an all-electric drivetrain. The company calls this a high-performance vehicle with a “motor racing punch” but did not reveal power figures.

We do know that the drivetrain is based on the one featured in the Citroen REVOLTe Concept. The “colorful” concept is about the size of an Audi TT and it looks more like a car that belongs on the fashion runway. More images can be found after the jump. 2010 Geneva: Citroen DS High Rider Concept

Citroen has revealed a new concept which carries the DS designation at the Geneva Motor Show. The DS High Line Concept features a hybrid system that includes a HDi diesel engine with an electric motor that is mounted on the rear axle. This means the concept has an all wheel drive configuration.

The full hybrid system allows the High Rider to run solely on pure electric power at times. The concept that measures 4.26 meters long, 1.82 meters wide and 1.48 meters high is likely to become the Citroen DS4 if it goes into production. Check out more images after the jump.

Citroen releases more information and images of the DS High Rider

Citroen has released juicy details about the DS High Rider concept which will be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show. First up lets talk about its powertrain. The DS High Rider has a hybrid system that is made up by a HDi DPFS (Diesel Particulate Filter System) diesel engine and a rear-mounted electric motor. The concept can also run solely with electric power for short distances.

The 4-seater 3-door concept measures 4.26 meters long, 1.82 meters wide and 1.48 meters high. As far as we know, it also has large 19-inch alloy wheels as well as vinyl or fabric-covered roof. While we wait for more details, continue reading to view more images of the concept.

Citroen releases image of the DS High Rider

What you see above is the Citroen DS High Rider concept that will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. The image and the name of the concept was released on the company’s Facebook profile. From the single image above it is safe to say that the concept looks almost production ready and it’s design definitely got the thumbs up from me. Citroen C-Zero to go on sale in late 2010

Citroen has announced that its C-Zero all electric vehicle will go on sale in Europe by the end of next year. The C-Zero looks very familiar because it is a rebadged version of the Mitsubishi i MiEV. Power is provided by a permanent magnet synchronous motor that outputs 64hp between 3,000 revs and 6,000 revs.

Torque is figured at 180Nm, achieved between 0 to 2,000 revs. Power is stored in a 330V lithium-ion battery pack that can be recharged via a conventional 220V socket. A complete charge would take six hours. You can also charge up to 80% within half an hour if you use an external charger. The auto maker will also launch a full-hybrid DS5 sometime in 2011.


Honda reveals the near-production CR-Z Hybrid Sports Coupe

Honda has released official images of the near-production version of the CR-Z Hybrid Sports Coupe, that will be showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show late next month. Called the CR-Z Concept 2009, it is based on the original concept that was shown back in 2007. Over the original concept, the 2009 version is treated to slightly revised front and rear ends, as well as a slightly reworked side profile.

The interior has been heavily modified, making it look more production friendly. Honda did not reveal drivetrain information, but many expect it to feature a slightly more powerful version of the hybrid system used in the Honda Insight. More information will be revealed, nearing the event. The actual production version, which is expected to be launched early next year, may end up looking a little different. Is this the production version of the Citroen C-Cactus?

What you see above is possibly the production version of Citroen’s C-Cactus Concept, that was first shown at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. The objective behind the concept was to create a low-cost ‘green’ vehicle. If the above is really the production version of the concept, expect it to be powered by diesel hybrid system, made up by a 3-cylunder diesel combustion engine and an electric motor. Rumor has it that the C-Cactus will be positioned under the ‘Essentiele’ sub-brand, for entry level Citroens, opposite to the DS premium sub-brand. Continue reading to view another image.
