2011 Bentley Continental GT breaks cover – 15hp more!

Following a teaser video that was released in August, Bentley has officially unveiled the 2011 Continental GT. Revisions carried on the outside include a more upright grille up front along with Mulsanne-inspired ‘jewel’ headlights with LED daytime running lights. In my honest opinion the front end looks much better the Mulsanne’s despite featuring similar headlights.

There are also new LED taillights. The tracks have been widened as well with the front being 41mm wider and 48mm at the rear. There is also a slightly different boot lid while the 2+2 coupe’s coefficient of drag has been reduced as well, to 0.33Cd along with the lift at the front and rear axles. The interior sports very little changes and they include a new infotainment system with an 8-inch display and a floating centre stack along with higher quality materials. The front seats are also slimmer now and that gives the rear passengers additional 46mm of leg room.

The W12 6.0 liter has been improved to offer more power, by 15hp and 50Nm of torque. That means it now makes 567hp and 700Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a new ZF 6HP28 Quickshift transmission which allows double downshifts and offers 50% quicker gear shifts. Apart from this FlexFuel engine (it can run on both petrol and bioethanol), Bentley will be offering a new V8 option late next year. The company says that this engine will offer 40% less emissions compared to the W12 unit.

Both engines are fitted with an all wheel drive system featuring a 40:60 rear-torque bias, compared with 50:50 bias with the original model. This would help reduce understeer during hard cornering. The GT sits on a front suspension which uses solid aluminium cast-forged with high-stiffness while the rear has an aluminium gravity die castings. There is also a new front anti-roll bar and retuned spring as well as damper settings.

Bentley teases the 2011 Continental GT Coupe

The Continental GT Coupe is set for an update and it’s maker Bentley has revealed a teaser video on a mircosite. The updated coupe is set to have it’s online reveal on September 7th before a public debut at the Paris Motor Show. The teaser video doesn’t say much but we can see a Mulsanne-inspired front end, not a good thing if you ask me. But it could look good, who knows. We will have to wait till we look at the whole thing.

The video also gives a quick glimpse of the revised centre dash fitted with a new infotainment display. The changes on this coupe is likely to trickle down down to the GTC and 4-door Continental models. You can check out the 43 second-long teaser after the jump.

Bentley Mulsanne Cabriolet: Rendering by artist

Bentley recently revealed the Mulsanne sedan (which is rumored of sharing the same platform with the Bugatti Galibier) at the Pebble Beach Concourse event in Monterey, California. Since then, it has received mixed opinions and I personally feel that the front end is a little too ‘grand’. However, apart from that, it is as Bentley as you can get, with a plush interior and a mouth watering 6.75 liter V8 that can produce 505HP and churn out 1020Nm of pulling power.

Anyway back to the topic at hand. Photoshop expert Theophilus Chin whipped up a top-less version of the Mulsanne. The rear seats are maintained and it features a canvas roof, instead of a retractable hard top. This guy is really talented! Continue reading to view more images of the Bentley Mulsanne Cabriolet.
