Bentley teases the 2011 Continental GT Coupe

The Continental GT Coupe is set for an update and it’s maker Bentley has revealed a teaser video on a mircosite. The updated coupe is set to have it’s online reveal on September 7th before a public debut at the Paris Motor Show. The teaser video doesn’t say much but we can see a Mulsanne-inspired front end, not a good thing if you ask me. But it could look good, who knows. We will have to wait till we look at the whole thing.
The video also gives a quick glimpse of the revised centre dash fitted with a new infotainment display. The changes on this coupe is likely to trickle down down to the GTC and 4-door Continental models. You can check out the 43 second-long teaser after the jump.

Insideline has reported that Bentley will unveil a new Azure convertible that will be based on the Mulsanne. The 4-seat convertible is expected to be launched next summer and will likely maintain the Mulsanne’s rather ugly-looking front end.

Bentley Mulsanne Cabriolet: Rendering by artist

Bentley recently revealed the Mulsanne sedan (which is rumored of sharing the same platform with the Bugatti Galibier) at the Pebble Beach Concourse event in Monterey, California. Since then, it has received mixed opinions and I personally feel that the front end is a little too ‘grand’. However, apart from that, it is as Bentley as you can get, with a plush interior and a mouth watering 6.75 liter V8 that can produce 505HP and churn out 1020Nm of pulling power.
Anyway back to the topic at hand. Photoshop expert Theophilus Chin whipped up a top-less version of the Mulsanne. The rear seats are maintained and it features a canvas roof, instead of a retractable hard top. This guy is really talented! Continue reading to view more images of the Bentley Mulsanne Cabriolet.

Video promo of the Bentley Mulsanne released

British auto maker Bentley has released a new promotional video of the recently unveiled Mulsanne, that is rumored to share a similar platform with the Bugatti Galibier. The promo video is centered around different production stages of the Mulsanne, starting from initial computer drawing, to the interior, bodywork, engine and finally the finished product. The Mulsanne is motivated by a 6.75 liter V8 that can produce 505HP and churn out 1020Nm of pulling power. The powerplant is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Bugatti 16C Galibier is based on the Bentley Mulsanne?

Words are being exchanged among the motoring fraternity that the Bugatti 16C Galibier is actually based on the Bentley Mulsanne, or vice-versa. If you study the comparison image above, you can notice a few things. First up, is what seems to be a similar wheelbase. Other similarities include an overall length that looks the same as well as end points on the A, B and C pillars. The A pillar, has the same starting point if you look at the lower part of the A pillar. Both end points on the B pillar are placed at identical locations. The lower end point on the C pillar is also the same. Also similar is the metal/glass ratio on the doors.
There is a possibility that these are just coincidences at best. However, if you take into account that both auto brands are owned by the same auto giant, Volkswagen, its very hard to dismiss this. Apparently, the boss of both brands Franz-Josef Paefgen, was earlier quoted, saying that it would be hard to find similarities between the new Bugatti saloon and the new Bentley.
Also, regarding the Galibier’s 8.0 liter W16 powerplant, a motoring journalist who was given the chance to drive it apparently revealed that it does not have a quad-turbo system, but instead has only two turbos. According to the source, two turbos can improve torque at the bottom end. Horsepower should be rated at slightly more than 900HP. 0 – 100 km/h should take slightly less than 3.0 seconds and top speed should be good for 390 km/h.
Frankfurt 2009: Bentley Mulsanne shown and details revealed

The all new Bentley Mulsanne first made its public debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in the US and now along with its European debut in Frankfurt, the auto maker has released more details regarding the premium automobile. Under the hood is a 6.75 liter V8 engine that can pump out 505HP and a ground cracking 1020Nm of torque. The powerplant is mated to ZF’s 8 speed automatic cog box, that comes with steering mounted paddle shifters.
Design wise, everything looks good to me, except for the front end. Something doesn’t feel right in this area. Inside, no complains what so ever. The ‘L’ word is important for this type of vehicle and from the looks of it, Bentley has done a fine job in this segment. The driver and occupants would be surrounded by acres of wood and leather, both finished in high quality materials. The Bentley Mulsanne is expected to be launched by mid next year.
