All new BMW 5-Series Touring unveiled!

BMW has added a new variant to the all new F10 5-Series which we had a go in earlier. This is the new Touring which is codenamed the F11. As expected with such a wagon, the boot space is huge. With the rear backrests up the space is figured at 560 liters. This figure can go up to 1,670 liters just by folding down the 40:20:40 split rear seats. On top of that the rear seats are also individually inclinable by 11 degrees in 7 stages by the way, nice!

Features like the Electric Power Steering and the 8-speed automatic transmission have been carried over from the sedan variant. The Touring also comes with self-leveling rear air suspension. There are two petrol and two diesel engines two choose from. The diesel family is made up by a 520d model with a 181hp and 380Nm of torque 4-cylinder unit.

There is also the 530d that features a 6-cylinder units which can crank out 242hp and 540Nm of torque. A more powerful 535d version is expected to join the line-up later on as well. Petrol wise, there is the 523i that makes 201hp and 270Nm of torque while the top of the line spot is taken up by a 302hp force-inducted 535i that can also produce 400Nm of torque. These engines come standard with the a 6-speed manual transmission.

Optional equipment includes Dynamic Drive Control with Normal, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes, Integral Active Steering and more. The tail gate also opens up separately. With this who needs a 5-Series GT? As always more images can be found after the jump. There is also a video for your enjoyment.

2010 Geneva: Citroen SURVOLT Concept revealed with provocative video

This is the Citroen SURVOLT Concept that was showcased at the Geneva motor event. It is a 2-seater concept featuring an all-electric drivetrain. The company calls this a high-performance vehicle with a “motor racing punch” but did not reveal power figures.

We do know that the drivetrain is based on the one featured in the Citroen REVOLTe Concept. The “colorful” concept is about the size of an Audi TT and it looks more like a car that belongs on the fashion runway. More images can be found after the jump. There is also a rather sexy promo video which is a must see!

Proton reveals three EMAS concepts in Geneva

Proton has officially unveiled its highly anticipated EMAS concept at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. The company is showcasing three variants of the hybrid concept including the more regular EMAS, the EMAS Country as well as the EMAS3. Other than ‘gold’ in Malaysia’s national language, EMAS stands for Eco Mobility Advance Solution.

The more regular EMAS variant is a 5-door hatch which is able to accommodate four occupants while the EMAS Country is more like a crossover with a raised suspension and SUV styling. The EMAS3 is a 3+1 seater 3-door hatch that is specified for city driving. As previously mentioned the EMAS concept is powered by a hybrid system that is made up by a 1.2 liter 3-cylinder engine that acts as a range extender.

The actual drive is provided by the electric motor. To me this looks like a better solution for alternative fuel vehicles. The electric motor makes 75kW (peak power, 45kW continuous power) and 240Nm of torque. 0 – 100 km/h takes a 14 seconds while top speed is figured at 170 km/h.

Inside there are two display screens in the center mounted at a concave angle. The right one shows the speedometer and other information like energy flow while the left screen displays entertainment and communication functions. The concept is also said to feature an interior space that is comparable to a C, D segment or an SUV.

More importantly, Proton’s managing director Dato Syed Zainal has confirmed that the concept will go into production and we can expect to see it in 2012 or in 2013. More images can be found after the jump. There is also a short video clip for your enjoyment.

2011 Porsche Cayenne revealed: Includes 380hp hybrid variant

Porsche has officially revealed the all new second generation Cayenne SUV. The new Cayenne which goes on sale in Europe in early May now has a sharpened front end and it looks good. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the rear end.

Something is just not right about the taillights. Its not Porsche enough for me but I will reserve my conclusion when I actually see it in the flesh. Dimensions wise the major change is the length which is 48mm longer than the model it replaces. Wheelbase is also 40mm longer.

Lets talk about engine options. The entry level Cayenne gets a 300hp 3.6 liter V6 that is mated to an 8-speed Tiptronic S gearbox. Next up is the Cayenne S that has a 4.8 liter V8 which produces 400hp, up by 15% compared to the outgoing model. The Cayenne Turbo makes 500hp from its 4.8 liter twin turbo V8. There is also a diesel Cayenne motivated by a force-inducted V6 outputting 240hp and 550Nm of torque.

The other variant is the Cayenne S Hybrid. This model features a 3.0 liter supercharged V6 engine that is paired with an electric motor. The former makes 333hp while the fuel-less counterpart produces 47hp. Collectively the system outputs 380hp and a massive 580Nm of torque which is available from 1,000 revs! Imagine that!

The S Hybrid can run solely on electric power at speeds of up to 60 km/h until power runs out. The hybrid SUV can also run on electric power during high speed cruising. The V6 combustion engine can be completely switched off and disengaged from the drivetrain at speeds of up to 156km/h. Continue reading to view an image gallery of the all new Cayenne. There is also a video for your enjoyment.
