Audi quattro concept heading into production?

Remember the Audi quattro concept that was shown at the 2010 Paris Motor Show? Now we have news that Audi may put the coupe/3-door hatch into production, according to a recent post by Jalopnik. Apparently a reader of the motoring website spotted a quattro running around with design studio license plates in Malibu, Calirfornia.

It was definitely for a photo shoot as a classic quattro was also present and there was police escort as well. The reader then asked one of the crew members some questions and he or she ‘confirmed’ that the quattro concept is going into production. There is nothing official about this and it will be interesting to hear what Audi has to say.

As mentioned before, the all-wheel-drive Audi quattro concept weighs 1,300 kilograms and it is powered by a turbocharged 2.5 liter 5-potter which makes 402hp and 480Nm of torque. Naught to 100km/h can be reached in 3.9 seconds. You can read more about it here.

335hp Audi RS 3 Sportback – official footage!

Following the official unveiling of the RS 3 Sportback, Audi has released an official footage showcasing the high-performance hatch. The video is 6 minutes 30 seconds long and contains several beauty and driving shots. You can also hear the ‘rumble’ of the engine but to be honest, it wasn’t what I expected. A bit too mundane. Nevertheless it shouldn’t stop you from watching the video after the jump.

Audi reveals the 335hp 2012 RS 3 Sportback

Audi has released official details and initial images of the 2012 RS 3 Sportback. The RS 3 gets the 335hp 2.5 liter 5-cylinder unit which also makes 450Nm of torque. You have guessed it right, this same engine also powers the TT RS. The engine is linked to a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and a quattro all-wheel-drive system, a must-have in high-performance Audis.

This configuration plus a 1,575 kilograms weight allows the RS 3 to hit the century mark in a respectable 4.6 seconds and return a top speed of 250km/h, electronically-governed.

The RS 3 is also treated with a sport suspension that is mostly made out of aluminum. Stopping power is provided by 370mm front/310mm back ventilated discs. The exterior is also aggressive with light weight CFRP fender flares, xenon headlights, a lower ride height, dual-exhaust outlets and more.

The interior is furnished with Fine Nappa leather, Piano Black trim, a lap timer as well as flat-bottomed steering wheel. The 2012 Audi RS 3 will go on sale next year with a €49,900 price in Germany.

Audi teases the next-gen A6 mid-sized sedan

The vehicle that is hiding beneath the white car cover here is the next-generation Audi A6, which is slated to arrive early next year, after the start of production at the end of this year. The new rival to BMW’s 5-Series and Mercedes’ E-Class will be manufactured at Audi’s Neckarsulm factory. Unfortunately we don’t have more details to share with you but given that it is going into production real soon, more information should be just around the corner.

Paris 2010 – Audi surprise us with the quattro concept!

This is something we totally did not expect to see: the Audi quattro concept. It was developed to mark the 30th anniversary of quattro and it is based on the RS5. The rear end does remind you of the classic, rally-winning Audi quattro of the 80′s, but I can’t help but to think about the Lexus LFA when I look at the front. Perhaps it’s the white body colour.

This 1,300 kilograms concept houses a turbocharged 2.5 liter inline-5 engine that cranks out 402hp and 480Nm of torque. 0 – 100km/h takes a rather quick 3.9 seconds. Audi also said that the engine has a “distinctive rhythm and musical sound”. This is made possible with the engine’s intake and exhaust geometry settings.

You can probably guess that the concept has the quattro all-wheel-drive configuration and it also has a sports differential. The quattro is the latest generation as it has a crown-gear center differential which “can vary the distribution of power between the front and rear axles over a broad range, enabling the quattro drive system to react within milliseconds to coax the maximum of fun and safety out of every last bit of torque.”

Other goodies include crossed-drilled, fade-free carbon fiber-ceramic brake discs with six-piston fixed calipers (for the front) as well as a central locking mechanism for the wheels (like the Audi R8 LMS GT). Audi did confirm if the concept will go into production, but something tells me it might.

More images are available after the jump. There is also a video for your enjoyment!

Paris 2010 – Audi shows off the A1 1.4 TSI

Audi has also unwrapped the A1 hatchback with the company’s 1.4 TSI engine at the Paris motor event. This little fire cracker makes 182hp and 250Nm of torque. The powerplant is paired to a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. This match made in heaven allows the hatch to sprint to the 100km/h mark in 6.9 seconds, up to a top speed of 227km/h. Fuel economy is figured at 5.9 liter per 100 kilometers, average and CO2 emissions on the other hand is figured at 139 grams per kilometer.

The A1 1.4 TSI is fitted with company’s S-Line body treatment. This is accompanied by 17-inch alloy wheels. Other options include xenon plus headlights along with LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights, an LED interior lighting package, a panoramic sunroof and more.

Audi has confirmed that the A1 1.4 TFSI will go on sale by the end of the year with a price that starts from €24,250. As always, more images await you after the jump.

Paris 2010 – Audi e-Tron Spyder concept shown

Staying true to the speculation, Audi has officially unveiled the e-Tron Spyder concept in the city of romance. Compared to the e-Tron that was shown in Detroit, this top-less variant is slightly larger. It is 13 centimeters longer and 3 centimeters wider. This means that it is 406 centimeters long, 181 centimeters wide and 111 centimeters high.

The major difference compared to it’s coupe counterpart, is the fact that the e-Tron Spyder uses a hybrid system, unlike the coupe’s all-electric drivetrain. It uses a mid-mounted twin-turbo TDI V6 with 300 PS and 650Nm of torque. This diesel engine powers the rear wheels while the front axle receives power from two electric motors. These two fuel-less motors produce 87 PS and 362Nm of torque.

0 – 100km/h takes 4.4 seconds while its top speed is figured at 250km/h, electronically-governed of course. Most importantly, it consumes just 2.2 liters of fuel to deliver 100 kilometers while outputting 59 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometer. The pure EV mode offers a 50-kilometer driving range. More images and with a video are available after the jump.
