Mercedes releases the 2011 CL-Class

This is the latest iteration of Mercedes’ CL-Class. The luxury coupe has been given a nip and tuck and is expected to go on sale next year. The exterior update is made up by a new grille, revised bumpers, new headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, fog lamps with LED technology as well as new taillights.

The interior sports, inter alia, a multi-function steering wheel with nappa leather which is now standard as well as new trim. The Mercedes COMMAND system with SPLITVIEW has trickled down to the facelifted CL. This system allows the driver and front passenger to view two different things at the same time.

It also has a 7.2 GB hard drive and Bluetooth connectivity along with USB and SD card compatibility. Two models are available including the CL 500 and the CL 600.

The former houses a 435hp twin-turbo 4.6 liter BlueDIRECT V8 with 700Nm of torque. The CL 500 which also carries the BlueEFFICIENCY designation is able to hit the century mark in 4.9 seconds, down from 5.4 seconds in the previous model.

To help improve efficiency, specifically with the reduction of fuel consumption to 9.5 liters per 100 kilometers, the BlueDIRECT V8 has friction-optimised pistons, piston rings, cylinder barrels, an on-demand control of oil pump, a new three-phase thermal management in the coolant circuit and an ECO start/stop function plus alternator control.

The top-of-the-line CL 600 has a growly twin-turbo 5.5 liter V12 which pumps out 517hp and a massive 829Nm of torque. This beastly coupe reaches 100km/h from a standstill in 4.6 seconds. The CL also features Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Adaptive High Beam Assist, Night View Assist and Active Body Control (ABC) with crosswind stabilisation.
