BMW reveals the facelifted 3-Series Coupe and Convertible

BMW has officially revealed the 2010 3-Series Coupe and Convertible models. Lets first talk about the exterior updates. The first thing you will notice is the reworked front fascia. It now has headlights featuring newly designed contours and a modified structure. The headlights feature ‘angel eyes’ that are lit by LED and they offer a white glow instead of yellow. The rear has been updated with L-shaped taillights that are now combined with a more harmonious colour scheme.

The front and rear overhangs on both models are longer now, where the front is 29 mm longer and their rear is longer by 3 mm. The interior has been updated as well. Both models now come with new Diagonal cloth as standard and Dakota leather as an option, which is also available in soft-grey Oyster. There is also Bamboo Anthracite Grain trim as well.

A modified leather sports steering wheel is also available as standard on both models where the steering wheel is finished in extra-smooth leather and the trim comes in a grain look. The galvanized trim bars at the side are finished in Pearl Grey chrome. Multifunction buttons are available as standard while potential buyers can also opt for paddle shifters (for automatic transmission).

Along with exterior and interior updates, BMW has also revised the engine line-up. The 2.0 liter engine in the 320d model now makes 181hp and 380Nm of torque. This model will hit 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds for the Coupe and 8.3 seconds for the Convertible. Top speed is 237 km/h and 228 km/h respectively. Fuel consumption wise the engine drinks 4.7 liters per 100 kilometers for the Coupe and 5.1 liters per 100 kilometers for the Convertible. CO2 emissions is figured at 125 grams and 135 grams per kilometer, respectively.

The 325d has 204hp and 430Nm of torque from just 1,750 revs, from a new 3.0 liter engine featuring a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry, an aluminum crankcase and a latest generation common-rail direct fuel injection. The Coupe takes 6.9 seconds to him 100 km/h while the Convertible takes 7.5 seconds. Top speed is 244 km/h and 238 km/h respectively. Fuel consumption on the other hand is 5.7 liters and 6.1 liters per 100 kilometers respectively.

There is also an entry level 318i for the Coupe and Cabriolet models. The 2.0 liter petrol engine produces 143hp and 190Nm of torque. The top of the line 335i model cranks out 306hp and 400Nm of torque from its 3.0 liter engine featuring the automaker’s TwinPower Turbo Technology, High Precision Injection, and VALVETRONIC fully variable valve management.

This model accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds for the Coupe and 5.8 seconds for the Cabriolet and both have the same governed top speed of 250 km/h. Overall there are five petrol engines and four diesel units for the Coupe and Cabriolet models.

Buyers can also opt for the xDrive all wheel drive system for no less than five versions of the Coupe. Apart from a standard 6-speed manual cog box and a 6-speed automatic, there is also an optional 7-speed Sports Automatic double-clutch transmission, for quicker shifting action.
