Volvo reveals the new C30: To make debut in Frankfurt

UPDATE: Three videos have been added.

Swedish auto maker Volvo, has officially revealed the all new Volvo C30, that is slated to make its debut at this month’s Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. On the outside, the new C30 is treated to a redesigned front end that is inspired by the Volvo S60 Concept and also featured on the recently launched Volvo C70. Work has been carried out at the rear as well. Just like the C70, the new C30 features larger ‘Volvo’ lettering. There is also new rear bumper. Other highlights on the outside include visible exhaust tailpipes in the T5 and D5 models, two new wheel options (also available in white, bringing total to 11), new Orange Flame Metallic body colour (pictured above, bringing total to 13 and 49 exterior combinations) as well as five different colours on the lower trim.

The interior features a new centre stack called the Oyster Burst Déco along with an all-new colour combination known as Espresso/Blond, consisting of a dark brown upper section and a blond, fresh shade on the lower door sides. The luggage compartment cover in the rear now uses a new material and a new graphic pattern. Overall, there are 27 upholstery choices to choose from, compared to 15 previously.

Volvo also revealed an accessory styling kit that is made up by foglamp décor, a front skidplate, side scuff plates with engraved C30 logo and a rear skidplate with a stylish aluminium look. For the D5 and T5 models, two 90 mm tail pipes in polished stainless steel are added. Underneath, the new C30 has a revised optional sport chassis. It comes with a lower steering ratio (giving 10% faster response to steering wheel input), increased spring stiffness (by no less than 30%), stiffer dampers (mono-tube type that builds up pressure much more quickly) and stiffer roll stabilizers. The sport chassis is available for all C30 models, except for the 1.6D DRIVe variant.

There are a total of five engines from the petrol family and four from the diesel family. The gasoline family is made up by a 100HP 1.6 liter with 150Nm, a 145HP 2.0 Flexifuel with 185Nm, a 145HP 2.0 liter with 185Nm, a 170HP 2.4 liters with 230Nm as well as a range topping 2.5 liter turbo T5 that can deliver 230HP and 320Nm of torque. Fuel consumption is figured between 7.0 liters per 100 km for the 1.6 liter and 8.7 liters per 100 km for the T5. The former outputs 167 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometer while the latter releases 203 grams. Compared to the 2.0, the 2.0 Flexifuel drinks less fuel, by 0.4 liters (7.4 liters per 100 km) and outputs less emissions, by 8 grams.

The diesel family includes a 109HP 1.6D DRIVe start/stop with 240Nm, 109HP 1.6D DRIVe with 240Nm, 136HP 2.0D with 320Nm and a 180HP 2.4 liter D5 with 400Nm of torque. Diesel consumption range between 3.9 liters per 100 km for the 1.6D DRIVe start/stop (with start/stop engine technology) and 6.2 liters per 100 km for the 2.4 liter D5.

The 1.6D DRIVe start/stop outputs 104 grams while the D5 spits out 164 grams of emissions per kilometer. The 1.6D DRIVe without the start/stop system drinks 4.5 liters of fuel per 100 km and outputs 119 grams of emission.
