Volkswagen facelifts the Transporter, Multivan, Caravelle and California

Volkswagen will present revised versions of the Transporter, Multivan, Caravelle and California vans at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Highlights of the revisions include new turbo diesel engines (TDI with Common Rail Injection), optional 7 speed dual clutch transmission (DSG), optional four wheel drive (4Motion with 4th generation Haldex coupling), combination of the DSG and 4Motion, refined ESP, new hazard warning light for the brake light and optional driver assist systems such as Side Assist lane change assistant and a tire monitor display.
Styling wise, all versions of the T5 van are upgraded with a new front end that is made up by a re-styled grille and newly designed headlights, new fog lamps for the rear bumper, new exterior mirrors (integrated with the antenna system), new 17 and 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome trims on the sides and rear and more. Inside, you would be surrounded with a new instrument panel (white lighting and chrome frame), new steering wheel, gear shift indicator, new controls for the semi and fully-automatic air conditioning system and new radio/navigation options with USB connectivity and MP3 playback.

The basic Multivan Startline now comes with a full trim interior and side and curtain airbags for the driver and front passenger. Volkswagen also announced that the new Transporter can be ordered with a new double front passenger seat bench which includes an integrated folding stowage compartment.
Engine wise, there are four TDI engines to choose from. These include, an 83HP version (220Nm), a 101HP version (250Nm), a 138HP version (340Nm, turbocharger with variable turbine geometry) as well as a range topping 177HP version (400Nm, two-stage charger with bi-turbocharger). Compared to previous generations, Volkswagen were also able to decrease CO2 emissions and fuel consumption levels by an average of 10% across the whole range.
