Lexus HS250h: First dedicated hybrid model

Lexus has officially launched the HS250h premium hybrid sedan for the Japanese market, and has also revealed that the new hybrid will be introduced in North America by September. The HS250h is powered by a 2AZ-FXE 148HP 2.4-liter Atkinson cycle combustion engine (with 187Nm of torque) mated to a 141HP electric motor (with 270Nm of torque), that is powered by a Nickel-metal hydride battery pack. Combines, the HS250h makes 187HP.
The new hybrid, which has a fuel efficiency rating of 23.0km/l, has four driving modes including Standard Mode (balances fuel efficiency and power), Eco Mode (improves fuel efficiency), Power Mode (more power) and Electric Vehicle Drive Mode (runs on the electric motor only).
Other features include; exhaust heat recovery system to help heat up the engine at a faster rate, special glass that blocks roughly 30% of infrared rays keeping interior temperatures from rising and thus reducing the need for air conditioning, LED headlights, Harmonious Driving Navigator which awards points for environmentally considerate driving that can then be used, for instance, to make donations to a charity (via a linkup with the “Project Mirai Isan” through a G-Link telematic system) and more.
More include heads-up display, “Remote Touch” system, a 10-speaker Lexus HS Premium Sound System (also available is the 15-speaker Mark Levinson optional sound system) and so on. The HS250h is available in four trim levels (standard, Version L, I and S) and prices start from 3,950,000 yen.
