Volkswagen up! to be built in India, with a cost price of €900 each!

German-based auto maker Volkswagen, is planning to produce the Volkswagen up! in India, an effort that will enable to auto maker to ‘enjoy’ a production cost of €900 for each up!. With a small figure as the cost price, Volkswagen will slap on a selling price of more than €9000 when the super mini hits the market.

The Volkswagen up! was first previewed as a concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in 2007. The up! is a rear-engined, rear wheel drive car with a 3.45 meter length. The 4-seater will most probably make use of 3 or 4-cylinder powerplants to keep fuel consumption low, apart from the cost.

Volkswagen did reveal that it plans to produce up to 1.4 million models, and a couple of versions may join the combustion engine variant including an electric, as well as a hybrid version. However, production as well as release dates are unknown at the moment.
