2010 Mercedes Benz S-Class: More details revealed!

Mercedes Benz has released official details regarding the refreshed version of its flagship luxury sedan. Exterior wise, the facelifted S-Class is treated to a revised grille with a reworked bumper with chrome inserts in the air intakes, Bi-Xenon head lights as standard and most significantly, the addition of LED lighting in the daytime running lights, indicators and marker lights which is standard for the S 400 Hybrid and S 600 models, while being optional for other models. The rear features bumper-integrated exhaust tail pipes as well as LED tail lights with a total of 52 LEDs.

On the interior, there is also an optional ambient lighting system (again, standard for S 400 Hybrid and S 600) with three lighting moods including solar (amber), neutral (white) and polar (ice-blue). Other interior features include the SPLITVIEW system as well as a revised COMMAND system with a new SD card slot, advanced Bluetooth connectivity, and a USB port. There is also an optionally available COMAND APS (standard for S 400 HYBRID and S 600 again) that comes with a Europe-wide navigation system whose data are stored on a 40 GB hard disc.

Safety features is made up by an Adaptive Highbeam Assist system, a revised Night View Assist system with pedestrian detection, Lane Keeping Assist function as well as a new Speed Limit Assist system which presents the current speed limit in the central display, apart from other features such as ABS, ESP, Brake Assist and PRE-SAFE Brake. There is also the ATTENTION ASSIST system that warns the driver in good time when he or she becomes drowsy. Continue reading for the rest of the report and to view an image gallery.

There are eight engine options available, including two diesel units and six petrol units. The S 400 Hybrid on the other hand features a 279HP 3.5 liter V6 petrol that is coupled with a 20HP electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. This greener S-Class consumes just 7.9 liters of fuel for every 100 kilometers traveled, while emitting 186 grams of emissions per kilometer.

Diesel units are made up by a 235HP 3.0 liter V6 in the S 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY (7.6 litres per 100 kilometers and CO2 emissions of between 199-201 grams per kilometer) as well as in the S 350 CDI 4MATIC and a 4.0 liter V8 that produces 320HP, found in the S 450 CDI. The pack of petrol engines is made up by a 272HP 3.5-liter V6 found in the S 350 and S 350 4MATIC, a 340HP 4.7 liter V8 in the S 450 and S 450 4MATIC, a 388HP 5.5 liter V8 under the hood of the S 500 and S 500 4MATIC, as well as a 5.5-liter biturbo V12 that churns out 517HP that motivates the range topping S 600 model. The pack is finished with two high performance versions including the 525HP 6.2-liter V8 fitted in the S 63 AMG and the 612HP 6.0-liter V12 powering the S 65 AMG. All models are fitted with the 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission.

The new S-Class also features new Direct-Steer system, where the ratio varies with the steering angle as well as a crosswind stabilization function which is standard for S 600 added to the Active Body Control (ABC) and the Torque Vectoring Brake system that helps offer greater driving agility by specifically braking the inner rear wheel at during bends. The 2010 Mercedes Benz S-Class will be available in German dealers from June this year. Pricing for the seven basic models, including VAT is figured at € 73,006.50 for the S 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, € 91,987 for the S 450 CDI, € 76,160 for the S 350, € 85,323 for the S 400 HYBRID, € 84,609 for the S 450, € 96,509 for the S 500 and lastly, a whopping € 155,354.50 for the top-of-the-line S 600 model.

Its great that Mercedes cars are going green. Looking forward to the 2010 Mercedes Benz S400. It will have the capacity to produce 275 horsepower. I am impressed with lithium ion cells battery. It is a very well designed car. Hope it performs well.
