2009 Toyota Wish now in showrooms across Japan
The 2009 Toyota Wish 7-seater compact MPV is now available in showrooms across Japan. With sales projections of up to 6,000 per month, the new Toyota Wish is offered with two engine options, both mated to Toyota’s Super CVT-i transmission. Both 1.8 liter and 2.0 liter engines are now equipped with “Valvematic”, which is a continuously variable valve-lift and valve-timing mechanism. With six different trim levels available, buyers can choose either a front wheel drive setup or a four wheel drive setup with both engine types.
As standard, all models come with the 7-speed Sports Sequential Shiftmatic feature which enables manual shifts with models like the 1.8S and 2.0Z featuring steering mounted paddle shifts. The 1.8S model also gets the CVT Sport Mode that improves responsiveness of the tranny during acceleration and deceleration.
The top of the line 2.0Z features a Dynamic Sport Mode that increases responsiveness of acceleration and deceleration, and is also designed for sporty driving during cornering through use of traction control systems and electric power steering. However, with this feature, the 7-seater Wish is forced to turn into a 6-seater compact MPV.
Drivers can also select the Eco Drive Mode (with an Eco Driving Indicator that lights up to signify fuel-efficient vehicle operation) to help improve fuel efficiency by adjusting throttle operation, as well as by reducing power sent to the air conditioning system to save energy. In the press release, the auto maker did not reveal engine performance figures, but did point out that the 1.8 liter powerplant with front wheel drive delivers 16.0 kilometers with a liter of fuel, while releasing 145 grams per kilometer in terms of emissions output.
The 2.0 liter with front wheel drive on the other hand delivers 15.2 kilometers per liter with an emissions output of 153 grams per liter. Other standard fitments include a S-VSC system that balances driving power, steering and braking in pursuit of stable driving in different road conditions, SRS airbags and SRS side airbags for the front and SRS curtain shield airbags for all three rows of seats and more.
Other features offered with the 2009 Toyota Wish, among others include, a 10-speaker Panoramic Live Sound audio system, Plasmacluster 3 air-purifying technology, Smart Entry & Start System, a push-button ignition for starting and stopping the engine and an Intelligent Parking Assist system that uses ultrasonic sensors to detect an empty parking space. The system then helps the driver when parallel parking or when backing into the parking space by informing the driver when to turn the steering wheel and where to start backing up.
