BMW and Fiat to produce small vehicles based on the same platform?

Rumor has it that BMW and Fiat are working together to develop and share platforms for small sized vehicles. With that said, we can safely speculate that the Munich-based auto maker will produce a small super mini carrying the Isetta name, and that the Italian auto maker will also revive the Topolino.
Along with the rumor, it was also speculated that both cars will have small displacement engines mounted at the back, and that these cars will feature 4 seats and a light weight construction made mostly out of carbon fiber and aluminium to help improve fuel efficiency. Apart from premium price tags, these cars may even feature electric-powered variants.
People within the fraternity are suggesting that if there is any truth behind the rumor, BMW will present a concept version with a MINI badge at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009.
