LTA and Google team up to create world’s first comprehensive travel planning tool on Google Maps for Singapore

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority has launched a comprehensive online travel planning tool on Google Maps. The project is a collaboration between the LTA and Google and its the first of its kind in the world. Normally, if you go to Google Maps and look at the map of Singapore, there are detailed information like a road map as well as directions on how to get from point A to point B and you can select for the system to show you directions by car or by walking.
Building on that, the Singapore version now has more features. You can also get directions if you wish to travel by public transport. The map will display detailed information pertaining to taking public transport to a selected destination.
For example, if you set to travel from Jurong West to Queensway via public transport, the system will show you different sections of the travel, including walking to Chinese Garden, taking the 154 bus heading to Eunos then taking the 198 bus heading to Bukit Merah and finally walking to Queensway from Ayer Rajah. Other information include travel time as well as frequency of buses or MRTs. This is an excellent feature and particularly good for tourists.

Furthermore there are mapplets that show more information, including Singapore Traffic Incidents, Singapore ERP Info and National Parks of Singapore. The traffic incident shows incidents like accidents, vehicle breakdown, road works or road blocks, obstruction and heavy or slow traffic, in real time!

ERP info displays all gantries and if you click on a specific gantry, you can view relevant pricing according to the time of the day. The National Parks of Singapore function indicates information regarding all parks in the country.

Under the collaboration, LTA provides key transit and traffic information such as live traffic feeds and public bus or MRT routes and schedules. Google then combines LTA’s transit data and work with Singapore’s Quantum Inventions to integrate traffic data on the popular and familiar user interface of Google Maps. This is cool stuff, you’ve got you try it out! Below are some relevant links. You can also use Google Maps on your mobile. Continue reading to view the above screen shots in high-res glory.
