Kamui Kobayashi shows interest in Team Lotus

Following Toyota’s recent withdrawal from Formula 1, Kamui Kobayashi who was the third driver for the team is now looking for a new team. The Japanese driver replaced injured Timo Glock for the final two races of the 2009 season and amazed everyone with his ballsy and very entertaining driving. He also scored his first points in Formula 1 with his sixth place finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Kobayashi was previously tipped to become a full time driver in 2010 for Toyota’s Formula 1 outfit. Even with Toyota’s exit, Kobayashi is ‘hot’ in the market and may well be picked up by other teams. Speaking to the French media, Kamui Kobayashi expressed interest in Malaysia’s Team Lotus.

“Obviously, my place at Toyota is now lost. I was close to signing a contract for 2010…but, with four new teams on the grid, there are still options and if I had to choose one, I’d choose Lotus,” revealed Kobayashi. He also said that Toyota is still assisting both himself and fellow Japanese driver Kazuki Nakajima (from Williams) in securing seats in 2010.
